PIVO: urgent air quality analysis

PIVO organises training courses for firefighters. The controlled fires on its grounds produce smoke that also gets into the adjacent offices, which caused concern among staff. We therefore carried out an urgent air quality analysis.

PIVO – the Provincial Institute for Education and Training in Flemish Brabant – organises firefighter training. The smoke generated during these courses caused odour nuisance in the buildings and concern about possible health effects among staff.

Quick response from Arizo

To protect them against potentially harmful substances, an urgent analysis of the air quality was needed. “We then asked Arizo to come and carry out measurements in those offices,” says Wenke Devriese of PIVO.

Shortly after PIVO’s phone call, one of our experts set off for Asse to carry out an air analysis. Wenke Devriese: “The day after we asked, they were here. We were really impressed by that.”

Air analysis with ten parameters

On site, the expert got to work with the AQM or Air Quality Monitor. This specialised measuring device checks ten parameters and, based on these, provides a detailed picture of the indoor air quality. Specifically, the following ten parameters are measured: carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, VOCs (volatile organic compounds), humidity, temperature and three forms of particulate matter. The VOCs present were also analysed in our in-house lab to determine the health risk.

A week later, PIVO received an extensive report with the detailed results of the various parameters measured. Such a report is always supplemented with tips and recommendations. “Very practical advice that we could put to use immediately,” says Wenke Devriese. “We could also always contact Arizo if we had any questions about the report,” she adds.
