Occupational hygiene: indoor air quality risk analysis

Air quality, worth investigating

Headaches, sore throat, irritated eyes, and fatigue during work? These are some of the symptoms of poor indoor air quality. Time for some active and preventive protection for your colleagues! Start with a risk analysis of indoor air quality and make your office a healthy and energetic environment.

Measuring indoor air quality vs. chemical exposure

Measuring indoor air quality starts with identifying sources of pollution. Think of the presence and physical activity of people and the infrastructure in the work premises, or the quality of the supplied air as a result of infiltration and ventilation. This is not the same as measuring chemical exposure, where processes and products are the culprits. That requires a different study.

What does the law say about indoor air quality?

As an employer you are required to conduct a risk analysis of the air quality in the work premises in order to identify potential pollutants. The guidelines provide instructions on how to proceed. You can protect yourself and your colleagues by getting a grasp of and applying this legislation.

Conduct your risk analysis with the AQM programme

A handy tool for investigating indoor air quality is Arizo’s AQM (Air Quality Monitor) programme. This advanced measuring device simultaneously monitors 10 essential parameters: carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, VOCs, humidity, temperature and 3 types of particulate matter. This data gives you a complete picture of the air quality and reveals any possible pollutants.

AQM

This high-quality measuring device monitors air quality in real time. It is 300 mm wide, 140 mm deep, and 54 mm high, making it easy to install on a cabinet or table.

VOC analysis

Volatile Organic Componounds (VOCs) are often harmful, but the degree of harm depends highly on the nature of the VOCs measured. Benzene, for instance, is more harmful than ethanole. If VOCs are present, an additional analysis can be conducted in the Arizo laboratory to determine the toxicity of the VOC mix.

Cloud storage

The AQM stores all the results so that the data and trends can be monitored and assessed over time.
