DIY exposure measurement

Working safely in land tanks

In ports they pop up everywhere: the enormous cylindrical land tanks, also known as ‘liquid bulk’ storage tanks or shore tanks. High concentrations of harmful vapours can build up in these confined spaces, resulting in a risk of explosion or a harmful atmosphere in the tank.

Land tanks must be inspected regularly and, where necessary, cleaned and repaired. To do this safely, you need specialised know-how – such as the expertise we have in-house at Arizo.

Legal thresholds

To enter a land tank safely, the atmosphere inside the tank must be harmless. Your employees must therefore not be exposed to concentrations higher than the statutory limit values.

The statutory limit values are set per chemical substance. Are there several substances in the air? Then the total risk is the sum of the risks of the individual substances. To estimate the total risk, it is therefore essential to measure all substances present.

Inspections by certified gas experts

Due to the often complex composition of cargoes, a simple EX/OX/TOX measurement is not sufficient to meet all legal safety requirements. Assessing the safety of land tanks is specialist work. Our accredited gas experts ensure that all legal safety standards are met.

Before employees enter a land tank, Arizo carries out a thorough risk analysis. We communicate the appropriate safety standards so that the manhole or fire watch can monitor safety correctly during the works. Our 24/7 service ensures that these inspections fit seamlessly into the planning of your activities.
