DIY exposure measurement

Air quality in hospitals

If you work in a hospital, you know how important it is to minimise exposure to harmful substances at work. But how can you be sure that the measures taken are effective? Anaesthetic gases, formaldehyde, alcohols and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs) can pose invisible risks to your health. Arizo offers an innovative and user-friendly method to measure exposure accurately: our DIY exposure measurements.

Why choose DIY exposure measurements?

With Arizo’s new measurement method, there is no need to bring in an external measurement expert on site. The prevention advisor can carry out these measurements completely independently. This offers numerous advantages:

  • Choose your own measurement time, without the logistical hassle.
  • High sensitivity: our method detects even very low concentrations of harmful substances.
  • Complete VOC analysis: in a single measurement, we map all the substances present.
  • Risk assessment included: the report gives you not only the measurement results, but also a full risk analysis.

When to use DIY exposure measurements in hospitals?

Our DIY measurement offers significant added value in two critical environments:

1. In recovery rooms and operating theatres

Anaesthetic gases such as desflurane, sevoflurane, isoflurane and nitrous oxide are used in operating theatres and exhaled by patients in recovery. Without proper monitoring, these substances can build up and pose a health risk to staff. With our DIY measurement, you can easily detect the presence and concentration of these gases. Surgical smoke can also be detected using this method.

2. In laboratories

Laboratories often use substances such as formaldehyde, alcohols and solvents, which evaporate and can be harmful with prolonged exposure. Until recently, formaldehyde was difficult to measure, but thanks to our advanced DIY method the full composition of VOCs, including formaldehyde, can now be analysed.

Health risks

Prolonged/chronic exposure to chemical substances usually causes irreversible damage such as:

  • Damage to the nervous system – increased risk of dementia, Parkinson-like effects, impaired vision/hearing, etc.
  • Damage to the immune system – hypersensitivity, allergies, (occupational) asthma, autoimmune diseases
  • Organ damage: first the lungs (inhalation), then also the liver and kidneys (processing of toxic substances)
  • Increased risk of cancer
  • Damage to the reproductive organs

Many of these symptoms accumulate over a long period (years) whereby the link with the causes often remains hidden (people attribute it to ageing). The consequences are however permanent and prevention is the only option!

Be sure of a healthy working environment

With Arizo’s DIY exposure measurements, you can assess the air quality in your workplace easily and affordably. You gain not only valuable insights but also a clear evaluation of the health risks. That way, you can be sure you have not overlooked anything.
