Gas measurements in shipping container

Increased risk of harmful gases in shipping containers

More than 10% of shipping containers contain harmful air. The evaporation of solvents and raw materials from the goods spells danger in more than half of these cases. Scarcely ventilated containers are packed with goods, and a cocktail of hazardous gases accumulates inside.

Health impairment from inhaling gases and vapours

Inhaling chemicals can cause various health effects.  Sometimes they are acute, but that is not the case for most substances. It has been scientifically proven however, that such substances can cause serious conditions in the long term such as respiratory ailments, asthma, allergies, autoimmune diseases, Parkinson’s, hearing loss, impaired vision, paralysis, brain damage, dementia, cancer, leukaemia, and organ failure.

Legal exposure limits

Employees who work in such containers run serious health risks.  Legal exposure limits or thresholds have consequently been set to protect them which may not be exceeded under any circumstances.

An Arizo employee measures the atmosphere inside the open container.

When multiple substances are present in the air, the total risk is the sum of the risks from each. As various chemicals are present simultaneously in shipping containers, all have to be identified and compared with their respective limits in order to determine the total risk. That is why we at Arizo developed the R.A.CH.E.L method.

An Arizo employee analyzes the air sample using the R.A.C.H.E.L. method.

Quick gas measurements with the R.A.CH.E.L. method

The R.A.CH.E.L. entails taking an air sample from the container without having to open it physically. The sample is analysed immediately using a FTIR technique capable of detecting all chemical substances.

All the substances present are accurately identified and measured by means of a patented programme  and the total risk can be determined in less than five minutes.

A certificate listing all the risks is also issued to protect the employees of recipients of the goods and provide manufacturers with precise information so that they can in turn adjust their processes.

Schedule a gas measurement of your containers

It is best to have a gas measurement performed in your containers in order to ensure a safe and smooth flow of your goods and to protect the people who handle your containers.
